Something Upstairs by Avi

When 12-year-old Kenny Huldorf and his family move into their new house, Kenny discovers that his room is haunted by the ghost of a slave named Caleb who was murdered in the early 19th century. Caleb summons Kenny back in time where he must solve Caleb's murder before he is able to return to the present. The author himself makes an appearance as a character in this historical mystery.

How long does this take to read for an average-speed reader?

Something Upstairs is sort of a mystery.You might think it is scary because there is a ghost but it is not! Also, it is real short and and sort of confusing.

This is a great book, with a lot of crazy twists. It's really suspenseful, but no, not scary. By the way, Jack, it is really short. Only like one or two days.

Something Upstairs is a great book. Once you start, you can't put it down. I t is suspenceful, not scary. It is about a boy who encounters an unexpected paranormal ghost slave boy named Caleb. Follow Kenny on his way to solving the mystery of the ghost upstairs. (This book took me 1 and 3/4 days to read.)

This book was pretty good. It was also kind of weird,well very weird actually. It is a really quick read. And it's a good book to use if you need to catch up in Battle of the Books.

This book was ok. I don't like mystery books, so I didn't like it very much.It was an easy read. Very short!

This one is Bekah's favorite:) It's really quick. I like in the beginning where Avi explains that it's a true story. You're already hooked on the first page. Very good way of describing what's going on:)
A+++++++++++++++.

This book is a short read [4 days max], but overall, an okay book. I was hoping for it to like, jump-out-of-my-pants scary, but it wasn't. It's a bit of a thriller but it leans more onto the mystery side. It's said to be a true story...but who knows?...

It was an easy read, but good if you like suspense. It only took me about forty-five minutes to read.

this is a very confusing story at first, but i gradually got to where i understood the way that the story was going, or so i thought. at the last moment, it seemed as if every thing were tossed into the trash and started over when you find out who the real killer is.

The book was sort of weird especially the cover, but it was short and easy to read.

This book is tied for my favorite because it is suspenseful, mysterious, and very exciting! It took me about two days to read. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. I really like this book because the plot is excitng and the end is very interesting. I wonder if Kenny's story really is true, though.
